Kari parenting It is important to provide that homework support. It's also important that parents remember that homework can be stressful even to young kids. We work 8 hours a day and most of us can leave work at the office. Our kids go to school 6-7 hours a day and then come home with an hour and a half of extra work. Add reasonable household chores and it's a lot to handle. When I was growing up we were encouraged to do our homework in our own time after school, but every night after dinner we all pulled our books to the table together. Each person worked on his or her own homework. If you'd already finished earlier in the day, there were coloring books or stationary to write letters to appreciative grandparents. This let the little ones sit with the "big kids" for homework time, it set an established time every day, and having all of us together created a wealth of possible help (with Mom there in case things got too out of hand).
